Bareilly: Research should be aimed at creating knowledge and contributing to the welfare of society rather than merely obtaining academic degrees, said Prof. Anil Kumar Rai, Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, at the concluding ceremony of a 10-day Research Methodology Course organised by the B.Ed./M.Ed. Department of the Faculty of Education.
The course, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education, Government of India, was organised on the theme “Research Methodology and Skill Development in Social Sciences: In Line with National Education Policy 2020.”
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Prof. Rai said research should be used for the benefit of society and that the process of research and learning should continue throughout life. He emphasised that the purpose of research is not limited to earning a degree but includes generating knowledge and applying it for social development and welfare. He added that NEP 2020 also promotes research rooted in Indian and indigenous contexts so that its outcomes can serve societal needs.
Chief guest Shashank Bhatia, Prant Sanghchalak of the Braj region of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, stressed the importance of carrying forward India’s rich research tradition. He encouraged scholars to remain lifelong learners and use their knowledge and research to contribute to society.
Guest of Honour Prof. O.P. Rai, Principal of Bareilly College, said the academic journey undertaken through the course would provide participants with a new direction for their future academic and professional pursuits. He described the conclusion of the course as the beginning of a broader and more meaningful research journey.
Prof. Santosh Arora, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Head of the Department, welcomed the guests and said such programmes play an important role in developing scientific thinking, research skills and academic commitment among scholars.
Course Director Dr. Meenakshi Dwivedi presented a detailed report on the 10-day programme. She said participants received training in research problems, research questions, objectives and hypothesis formulation, research design, literature review, sampling, research tool development, data analysis, academic writing, research ethics, interdisciplinary research and AI-assisted research tools.
Experienced experts from reputed central and state universities conducted lectures and practical sessions during the course. All 30 selected participants attended the programme with discipline, punctuality and active academic participation.
During the concluding ceremony, participants shared their experiences and feedback, following which certificates were distributed to them and the guests were honoured. Course Co-Director Dr. Rambabu Singh proposed the vote of thanks to the guests, subject experts, participants, university administration, organising committee and other contributors.
